Key forestry/conservation leaders met on October 10 to discuss how to advance the strategic
vision and recommendations from the May conference, Family Forest Stewardship: Getting to
the Next Million Acres, within the range of present and future policy reforms for state forest
conservation.

August 16-17, 2006, Building the Capacity of Minnesota ’s Wood Products Industry: Harnessing Innovation

Blandin Foundation hosted its third major conference for growing Minnesota's vital wood products manufacturing industry. May 25, 2006, Family Forest Stewardship: Getting to the Next Million Acres

The forests of Saint John's University played backdrop for a productive conference attended by over 70 private woodland owners, forestry professionals an others to focus specifically on Family Forest Stewardship. The goal of the conference was to agree on what we need to do – as a state -- to increase the number of acres of family forest land with Forest Stewardship Management Plans from 1.3 million today to 2.3 million by 2015. This conference convened key stakeholders of third-party certification efforts underway in Minnesota to call attention to the importance of increasing the number of acres under certification, including private woodlands. Call to Action conferences brought together a diverse group of to explore together global factors impacting Minnesota’s forests and forest product industry.

Participants identified opportunities to improve the competitiveness of Minnesota’s forest-based economy, the quality and sustainability of Minnesota’s forests and the vitality of our forest-based communities that the Vital Forests/Vital Communities initiative is uniquely positioned to address.
